The song reminds me a little bit of a Johnny Cash song; I can just imagine hearing his voice singing it. Kind of like one of his more obscure gospel tunes. So far I've got two fingerpicking acoustic guitars and a claw hammer style banjo part along with some organ with heavenly voices mixed in and a straight forward rock beat. This is the fun part of song arranging to me; when I don't know what exactly I'm going after with a song sound and just let it take on a life of its own. I listen over and over and try to imagine what instrument will compliment what I'm hearing. Sometimes I actually fall asleep listening! Oh well; it beats watching reruns of some cheesy sitcom right? Until next time... happy song writing!!!
Well it's been a pretty slow week in the old recording studio. But I managed to plod along on this new song I'm working on. The idea came to me in 1985 which was a fairly prolific year for worship songs. This one never made it past a hook line and a couple of follow on lines... that is up until now. The song is MY LIFE MY LORD MY GOD; probably not exactly a blockbuster of a title, but it reflected the deep connection with Jesus I was feeling in worship at the time. The ideas for the new lyrics come from Proverbs 3:5-6 which says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight." I continue to strive for this in my life; to trust Him with all my heart, to lean on His wisdom found in the bible, and to glorify Him in all my ways. It's a life long goal for me that never gets easier!
