GET USED TO IT

(Listen to the song; #3 on REGGIE'S GREATEST FLOPS)
Okay so I wrote this song back in 1979. Seems like a lifetime ago; (actually it IS a lifetime ago come to think of it!) Anyhow, it is one of my secular heartbreak tunes; and a little heavy on the cliché side. So with that in mind, I thought it might make a good Country song. But as the production evolved I came to the realization that I am not a Country artist. So my attempts at sounding "Country" are contrived at best. Nonetheless I'm having fun with it as I do with all the music I set out to create! It will probably come out like most of my music; somewhere between folk and rock. I realize I want to be true to who I am and what I like and so have difficulty writing what might happen to sell or get the attention of the masses.

This song is one of seven leftover out of the eighty songs I have written to date that I have not recorded yet. Mind you I'm not counting songs that I have co-written with other artists or cover songs I have done. So this huge bulk of work is winding down to the end and soon I will have to start thinking about where to go from here. I'm hoping getting this all done will free me up to begin writing some new and fresh music. Only time will tell. Here's the lyrics:

GET USED TO IT

Words and music by Reggie Michaud  © 1979

Well it’s a long hard road gotta get used to it
Cuz I used to be used to living with you
And that pain dies slow so get used to it
Cuz I used to be used to living with you

Monday morning your sweet face is on my mind
Was I wrong when I left you so far behind
Early morning always seemed so sweet with you
All alone I can barely think of what to do

Yes it’s a long hard road gotta get used to it
Cuz I used to be used to living with you
And that pain dies slow so get used to it
Cuz I used to be used to living with you

Thought that I’d spend my life right next to you
But I fell for a girl who was never true
When I found you let others love you too
Felt the pain deep inside so away I flew

Guess that I was the fool
Bending over backwards for you
Do you think you were cruel to me
Now it seems so absurd
Crazy stories I have heard
Maybe someday you’ll learn maturity

But it’s a long hard road gotta get used to it
Cuz I used to be used to living with you
And that pain dies slow so get used to it
Cuz I used to be used to living with you
