WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

(Listen to the song; #10 on CHRISTIAN FOLKS)
This song shall be included in my CHRISTIAN FOLKS album. This one is unique in that it was written while I was living in the jungle in Southern Venezuela. It felt like a breath of fresh air in a minor writer's block I had at the time. I attribute that to the fact that I had been removed from my culture; the immersion in constant music and entertainment, and into a simpler daily life of having to work to obtain the basic necessities of life. The only music and entertainment we had access to was that we made ourselves, singing and playing the beater guitar I brought along on the trip.

The basic song idea came out of my study of 2nd Corinthians 10 and verses 1 through 5 specifically. To me it was very significant also because the year before, a war had broken out while the last missionary team was there and so we did quite a bit of thinking and praying about the imminent danger of living with the indiginous peoples there in the jungle. But the weapons of our warfare were of a spiritual kind, and I was reminding myself that our war was not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in opposition to God Himself. So we were on the side of might and infinite power and at a time of feeling vulnerable in an unfamiliar environment and that was very comforting!

So give it a listen; I hope you like it and it inspires you to dig deeper into God's Word and protection. Take up your swords my fellow warriors!!! Here's the lyrics:

THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE
Words & music by Reggie Michaud © 1984
(ref: 2nd Corinthians 10: 1-5)

I became a soldier in God’s holy army
When I gave my life to the Lord
I
will fear no evil or any worldly disaster
Because my safety lies in the hands of God

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty
Through God to the pulling down of strongholds

Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself

Against the knowledge of God

I will recruit you by the gentleness and meekness
In Christ through whom we all must abide
For thought we walk in the flesh, we war not after the flesh
For to live is Christ and to die is gain!

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty

Through God to the pulling down of strongholds

Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself
Against the knowledge of God

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty

Through God to the pulling down of strongholds

Bringing into captivity every foolish thought a man can have

To the obedience of Christ

Simple Man's Prayer

(Listen to the song; #5 on MELTING POT)
This song is my latest addition to the MELTING POT album project. I wrote this one back in 1984 in the days I was jamming with Mark Crafford and Sam Pagano. We actually performed this song at College Center Covenant Church when Mark Hoffman was the Youth Pastor there. It was some kind of youth talent night and we put a full band together and played this song and also THE REGIONS BEYOND choreographed to a slide show from my missions trip to Venezuela playing behind us.  I remember I also did a duet with Cassie Perkins; an Amy Grant song called DADDY'S EYES.

Simple Man's Prayer is a song of repentance and a reminder of our ultimate humility before God. Mark came up with the lyrics for the second verse. I had an Ibanez hollow body guitar when I played this back then. It really sounded rich; wish I still had it! Well give it a listen if you can find the time!

SIMPLE MAN’S PRAYER
Words & Music by Reggie Michaud © 1983

I’m just a simple man; oh won’t you humble me my Lord
And I’m a sinful man; oh won’t you comfort me my Lord
And when I stray from you- You always lead me back again

Cause there’s a struggle now- oh won’t you lift me up in Your hands

Oh – oh – my lord Jesus (You lift me up when I’m falling down)
Oh – oh – my provider (You give me strength when I’m on the ground)

Oooh – oooh – my redeemer (You cast my sins to the bottom of the sea)

Oooh – oooh – You’re my savior (You clear the air and You rescue me)

I’m just a simple man; I have a simple brand of faith
I lead a simple life- of love and trust in Jesus Christ
And if I stray from you- oh won’t You lead me back again
Cause there’s a struggle now- when will You lift me up in Your hands

Oh – oh – my lord Jesus (You lift me up when I’m falling down)
Oh – oh – my provider (You give me strength when I’m on the ground)

Oooh – oooh – my redeemer (You cast my sins to the bottom of the sea)
Oooh – oooh – You’re my savior (You clear the air and You rescue me)

I’m just a simple man; You bring my simple plans to life
I’m just a sinful man; but Your forgiveness ends my strife
And if I stray from you- You’re gonna lead me back again
If I’m in trouble now- I know You’ll lift me up in Your hands

Oh – oh – my lord Jesus (You lift me up when I’m falling down)
Oh – oh – my provider (You give me strength when I’m on the ground)

Oooh – oooh – my redeemer (You cast my sins to the bottom of the sea)
Oooh – oooh – You’re my savior (You clear the air and You rescue me)
