WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

(Listen to the song; #10 on CHRISTIAN FOLKS)
This song shall be included in my CHRISTIAN FOLKS album. This one is unique in that it was written while I was living in the jungle in Southern Venezuela. It felt like a breath of fresh air in a minor writer's block I had at the time. I attribute that to the fact that I had been removed from my culture; the immersion in constant music and entertainment, and into a simpler daily life of having to work to obtain the basic necessities of life. The only music and entertainment we had access to was that we made ourselves, singing and playing the beater guitar I brought along on the trip.

The basic song idea came out of my study of 2nd Corinthians 10 and verses 1 through 5 specifically. To me it was very significant also because the year before, a war had broken out while the last missionary team was there and so we did quite a bit of thinking and praying about the imminent danger of living with the indiginous peoples there in the jungle. But the weapons of our warfare were of a spiritual kind, and I was reminding myself that our war was not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in opposition to God Himself. So we were on the side of might and infinite power and at a time of feeling vulnerable in an unfamiliar environment and that was very comforting!

So give it a listen; I hope you like it and it inspires you to dig deeper into God's Word and protection. Take up your swords my fellow warriors!!! Here's the lyrics:

THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE
Words & music by Reggie Michaud © 1984
(ref: 2nd Corinthians 10: 1-5)

I became a soldier in God’s holy army
When I gave my life to the Lord
I
will fear no evil or any worldly disaster
Because my safety lies in the hands of God

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty
Through God to the pulling down of strongholds

Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself

Against the knowledge of God

I will recruit you by the gentleness and meekness
In Christ through whom we all must abide
For thought we walk in the flesh, we war not after the flesh
For to live is Christ and to die is gain!

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty

Through God to the pulling down of strongholds

Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself
Against the knowledge of God

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty

Through God to the pulling down of strongholds

Bringing into captivity every foolish thought a man can have

To the obedience of Christ

THE ANSWER IS JESUS CHRIST

(Listen to the song; #4 on MELTING POT)
So last time I mentioned a song that was written from the headlines in newspapers, and I'm happy to announce that I just loaded it to the Songs page and to the Melting Pot album page on this site. I played around with some sound effects and overlapping vocal parts. The song contrasts the war and destruction going on all over the world with the sometimes oblivious average American. And the main message is that if you look at the big picture, the answer to the chaos all around us is the rule, mercy, and love of Jesus Christ.

I started the song in 1984 and finished up with current events from 2004, so the song spans 20 years.

Thanks to all those who take the time to listen. You make me feel like I'm not doing this in a vacuum after all! God Bless!!! Here are the lyrics:

THE ANSWER IS JESUS CHRIST
Words and music by Reggie Michaud  © 1984

Shells are flying, bombs exploding; somewhere there are children playing
In Beirut the ground is trembling; in Laguna “no nukes” rally on.
Troops watch smoke from burning buildings; Tuesday morning’s just beginning
Fighting lingers in Grenada; Wendy’s has new stuffed potatoes now

And the world says now; “we will mend our ways”
But they can’t see or hear the Spirit calling…

And the answer is clear my friend; what are we searching for?
Yes the answer is Jesus Christ in nineteen eighty four

Chechen terrorists kidnap children; hip-hop drummers prefer Zildgen
Northern Irish reject peace talks; Western health nuts prefer long walks now

Huge tsunami in South Asia; Miss Universe is from Malaysia
Peaceful end for Ronald Reagan; academia studies pagan cults

And the world says now; “we are on our way”
But they can’t see or hear the Spirit calling…

And the answer is clear my friend; what are we searching for?
Yes the answer is Jesus Christ in two thousand and four
And forevermore!
