1987 - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
Although I could not find a biblical reference for the title “Holy Power” within the Godhead, it seemed very appropriate especially in light of the moving of the Holy Spirit among us in those years and the power that was manifest through His presence. We were witnessing healings, demonic expulsions, chains of addiction being broken, and a continued explosion of His power and presence during worship. At this point in time, these kinds of manifestations were much more prevalent in the home fellowships than in the Sunday services. My opinion on the reason for this is that the intimacy in worship was much greater in the home fellowship setting. Plus there was a greater freedom for experimentation and exercising of the gifts we were growing in. These things helped to create a higher expectation of what the Holy Spirit would be doing in and among the participants.
I probably played this song in worship for a couple of years, and Karen Taylor liked the song and helped to keep it alive in the home fellowship where she was leading. It was one of the last worship songs of mine that got any play time with the exception of I WILLTESTIFY, which came out two years later in 1989 and got played more than any of the others. There was one other song after this that we sang for a brief period called WE NEED YOU, which came out in 1991, but it evolved more as a “special” song than a worship song per se. During this year my little family was focused on making the house in Lemon Grove our home, and raising our two beautiful girls. The yard had been allowed by the previous tenants to become so overgrown you couldn’t even walk through it. So I ended up hacking a bunch of century cactus plants apart with a chain saw. And I found out the hard way that the juice from those plants gave me a horrible skin rash, much like poison ivy. I also got stabbed by one of the spires at the ends of the large leaves, right between my ankle and Achilles tendon. My ankle swelled up like a balloon and we called the doctor. That night I learned of the wonderful effects of Benadryl on those kinds of reactions. After taking some, the swelling went down within a couple hours and it was like nothing had ever happened. Thank you Jesus!
After the plants were all cut up, I had to dig around the plants and cut most of the roots. Once this was accomplished, Billy Boggan came over with his Chevy pickup and we pulled those suckers (or should I say succulents? Thanks Connie!) out of the ground with a really big chain. The day we hauled all that stuff off to the dump, our yard got a whole new lease on life! And now for the lyrics:
HOLY POWER
Words and music by Reggie Michaud © 1987
Holy power, this is our sacrifice of praise
All together we surrender now and always
Holy power, this is our sacrifice of love
We’re preparing for the wedding; When you come down from above
And like a thief in the night
When the time is finally right
And your bride is spotless white
You will come; come, come Lord
Holy power this is our sacrifice to You
Holy power in this hour come and make us new
Holy power, our strong tower listen to us sing
Sweet affection your direction as we enter in
Holy power awesome Father seated on Your throne
We are longing for Your calling when You come to lead us home
And like a thief in the night
When the time is finally right
And your bride is spotless white
You will come; come, come Lord
Holy power this is our sacrifice to You
Holy power in this hour come and make us new
Holy power this is our sacrifice to You
Holy power in this hour come and make us new
