JOSIAH

(Listen to the song; #6 on CHRISTIAN FOLKS)
2nd Kings Chapter 22 is the account of one of the Kings of Israel in biblical times. It was in the days when Isaiah was the prophet in Israel. Josiah's father was one who did evil in the sight of the Lord, and Josiah's son who succeeded to the throne also did evil. So as one who was a man after God's own heart, he seemed very out of place in his lineage. Another intriguing thing about the reign of Josiah is that he took the throne when he was only eight years old!

So as I read this one day back in 1987, I felt that this was a very significant story of repentance and renewal that no only had significance for me personally, but also to the USA as a nation. This is an account of a dramatic revival centering on one young boy. And as we pray for revival in this nation, his story is encouraging and also tragic. And what better time than now to release a song about this account and make a statement about the direction Christians fear this country is heading and to encourage Christians everywhere to pray for revival.

At this point, I am almost done with the recording, but I want to add an instrumental part. Not sure what that's going to be since I sprained my wrist and am having trouble playing the guitar. But stay tuned and the song will be posted before you know it! Here are the lyrics:

JOSIAH
Words and music by Reggie Michaud © 1987
Ref: 2 Kings 22

He was born of a man, who did evil in the sight of The Lord
In the days when Isaiah was the prophet who was speaking out God’s Word
And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord,
And he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
And he followed in the footsteps of David his grandfather from of old.

Ooooh Josiah- how did you turn?
Ooooh Josiah- what did you learn?
Was it truth that warned you idols must be burned
And The Lord will keep you on the path; for this you have been born

Just a lad of eight years old was Josiah when he took his father’s throne
He possessed a heart of gold but in goodness in those days he was alone
And he fixed the house of God found the Word that had been lost
When he read the words within, he could see what it would cost
For to turn them all from sin and to serve the One who they were called to serve

Ooooh Josiah- now what can you say?
Ooooh Josiah- can God’s wrath be turned away?
Can you till the hearts of stone and make them pray?
And the light will slowly brighten like the rising of the sun in the new day.

Ooooh America- when will you turn?
Ooooh America- there’s a chance before you burn?
Just abandon all the greed and change your ways.
Before your enemies take you over and you give it all away.
