1985 - This song was intended to be a wedding song, and I have had the privilege of singing it at several weddings. The lyrics talk about how when a man and woman come together in the God-sanctioned union of marriage, the two become one flesh. The covenant of marriage is meant to be taken seriously, and the bible has a lot to say about it starting in Genesis and continuing throughout.
The chorus was taken from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; the famous listing of all the virtues of love. And my prayer at the end “And we pray dear Lord… this love will never fail” portrays the seemingly fragile nature of love and the marriage covenant in recent times.
Some of the weddings I have sung it for that I can think of are; Robert and Kim Le , Tim and Cindy Tresser , and Patti Watwood (I forget her husband’s name). And now for the lyrics…
THIS LOVE WILL NEVER FAIL
© 1985 Words & Music by Reginald M. Michaud
Today is the day these two will unite in the Lord
Giving themselves through love and their faith in His Word
His hand is upon their lives as they walk towards the door
Their past left behind; they’ll never be two anymore
Lord, pour out Your Spirit on man and woman today
Lord, Father in heaven we welcome Your presence
We search for Your blessing for:
Your love is kind
Your love is pure
It bears all things
And it lasts forevermore
For love seeks to give
And Your love endures
And we pray dear Lord
As you take away the veil
This love will never fail
